The spectacular countryside and the simple lifestyle of the hill tribe people make Mai Chau one of northern Vietnam's most attractive destinations. You drive through the mountainous area and get a chance to walk along the beaten track to visit some tribal villages.

Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau - Xalinh  
The spectacular countryside and the simple lifestyle of the hill tribe people make Mai Chau one of northern Vietnam's most attractive destinations. Today we depart hotel at 8h00 and travel northwards through the scenic landscape of rice fields, tea plantation and traditional stilt houses to Mai Chau. After lunch at Poong Coom Village near Mai Chau Town, we drive one hour to Xa Linh for an afternoon exploration of this secluded area. On arrival we embark on an easy walk past the breathtaking scenery and the many rustic hamlets. They are inhabited by the Hmong hill tribe people who are very poor, but have an interesting local culture as well as handmade clothing tradition. By mid afternoon we return to Mai Chau village where we are guest of a Thai family. The accommodation is very simple and dormitory style, no western facilities. O/N at Pong Coom village. (L,D)

Day 2: Mai Chau - Hanoi  
Today we spend a half day exploring Mai Chau on a walking tour. The local footpaths zigzag on valley floor and pass by various interesting villages. This exciting walk gives us a chance to see many villagers on their daily works such as logging, herding buffalo, tilling the field or weaving brocade. They are friendly and welcoming. Upon leaving the village of previous night we drive across Mai Chau Town before we make our way uphill, past the undulating mountain landscape. En route we have some stop opportunities, to stretch our legs , take some wonderful shooting or enjoy a short walk to some road side villages. The trip ends after arrival in Hanoi. (B)
